As a photographer I am inspired by the diversity and interconnectedness of cultures, in particular a respect for Indigenous cultures and the practices that have sustained and maintained group identities over centuries. The strength, tenacity and cohesion of the human spirit, presents a richness that I seek to document and celebrate. The photographic process and resulting products generate a reciprocal energy for moments and memories between the people who are the storys focus and myself. This collaborative process of storytelling lends itself to the articulation of hidden voices. The experience for myself has been one of encountering great vitality and generosity of spirit in defiance of the continuing inequities and injustices being experienced within a contemporary and largely avaricious society. These images, I hope, demonstrate the resilience and pride in survival that permeates people who are often forgotten. It is my intention that future work will build on the experiences I have gained from being included in such private and personal domains where disadvantage continues to marginalise.
