I perform and exhibit as the artist superhero character Arlene TextaQueen. I have been performing as Arlene TextaQueen for the past 4 years, appearing in various environments, from community festivals to nightclubs, and in squats, artist run initiatives and commercial run galleries.
As TextaQueen I have documented the MCs, performers and people of Sydney's hip hop and underground scenes, conducted regular drawing workshops with children, and, more recently, begun creating 'Textanudes', which are "females drawn naked in their own habitats".
Very much in the tradition of Annie Sprinkle's 'Post Modern Pin-ups', the Textanude portraits allows women of unconventional beauty and sexuality to celebrate their diversity, and to reclaim nudity as a powerful individualised state.
