biography Once upon a time, there was a boy called Ryan and he was in a rock band. This rock band achieved reasonable local success over a few years and then broke up. So, the next weekend, Ryan ventured into the deep, dark forest and went to his first rave, where he found no goblins or wolves but a new love of electronic music. A few bands, a stint of disc-jocking, and a lot of parties later, Ryan discovered an electronic music composing program called Buzz (freeware, download at www.buzzmachines.com), and started composing what became the first >>>OBLIQUE_INDUSTRIES tracks. His wide range of influences - from Squarepusher to Shadow, Ween to Wu-tang, Green Nuns to Greig (check Medicate) - has only expanded as his love for both live instrument and electronic music grew, and so has the range of genres covered by >>>OBLIQUE_INDUSTRIES (tech, trance, DnB, breaks and hip-hop to name a few, and sometimes many of these throughout one track). Compared by many to Aphex Twin, Ryan likes to explain his music as eclectic electronica or eclectronica (an album will be hard to catalogue in a record store).

In April 2002, Ryan made the first of Free EP series of CDs, which were only available from him personally, if you were at the right place at the right time. In November, he released the War Against War EP in much the same way. This EP is now available to buy at selected record stores. Work has begun on a follow-up EP, slated for release in the next few months. A track from each of these EPs can be found by following the links from www.obliqueindustries.tk.
