1. Why does noise have an age limit?
Answer: noise is a festival that exhibits the work of young people, so somewhere along the way we had to come up with an age limit. We decided that the definition of "youth" as being 25 and under sounded sensible so we decided to use it.

2. How does work get chosen?
Answer: Most of the work we exhibit is collected through open submission which means that we invite young people from all across the country to get involved and send us their stuff. Once it gets sent in noise staff and other individuals who are specialists in their field choose which work to exhibit.
For some activities we commission specific work from specific people. We find out about these people through arts organisations and media bodies that we work with and through the grapevine.

3. Why are all the deadline dates different for each activity?
Answer: noise sets deadlines based on the amount of production time we need for a given activity. Some activities require quite a long production time (for example, those in the television arena) while others (such as some online activities) can be produced in a relatively short period of time.

4. Will I be notified about what is happening with my work?
Answer: noise will notify you when your work is received. If your work has been selected for use in the festival we will contact you again before October 2003. You will be notified by phone, email or mail � therefore it's really important that you keep your details up to date. There may be a long period of time in between notifying you that your work has been received and letting you know that we have selected it. This is because we receive thousands of submissions from all over the country, so these things can take a bit of time.

5. Will noise pay me for using my work?
Answer: The aim of noise is to exhibit the work of young Australians to as wide an audience as possible. Therefore, in the majority of cases, noise does not pay for the use of work.
There are some exceptions were payment will occur, in these instances noise will notify you and give you the low-down.

6. When does the festival take place?
Answer: The festival itself will take place across the media in October 2003. Keep visiting the noise website (www.noise.net.au) and join our email list to stay in touch with what's happening.

7. What's the deal with copyright?
Answer: For all noise activities the copyright of the work remains with the person or persons who created it. In signing your submission form you give noise permission to use your work in the context of the festival, including marketing and reporting purposes.

8. How many works can I submit?
Answer: You can submit as many works as you like to as many projects as you want to. However, please don't submit the same piece of work to multiple activities. For each work you submit you will need a different submission form.

9. How do I get additional submission forms?
Answer: You can get hold of additional submission forms from the noise website (www.noise.net.au) (e.g. RIGHT HERE!) or by calling our free call line 1800 003 552 (charges may apply from mobile and public phones) and requesting a noise Guidebook which has several included. Alternatively just photocopy more of the forms at the back of the Guidebook if you have one already.

10. How can I help out with noise?
Answer: The best way that you can help out is by spreading word of the festival to your family and friends. If you would like multiple copies of the noise Guidebook to hand out at your school or local community group just get in touch with noise by phoning our free call line 1800 003 552 (charges may apply from mobile and public phones) or email info@noise.net.au. Please leave your name, postal details and the quantity of guidebooks you would like and we'll send them out to you.

11. What are some other ways I can get involved in the arts as a young person?
Answer: THE PROGRAM is an online initiative that connects young people and the arts in Australia.
Through THE PROGRAM you'll find news from creative people and organisations along with special offers, such as cheap or free tickets, opportunities and subscriptions, event listings and other useful arts industry insider information. There is also a regular newsletter and the chance to promote your own arts events. To check it out just visit the website at www.theprogram.net.au.
