noise is a coup detat of the media by a critical mass of young Australian creators! In the month of October 2003 with the support of an awesome array of media partners noise will profile young Australian artists (under 25) and the work they create.
A Federal Government initiative, noise is the bridge between you the young Australian creator - and the usually elusive media media that will print, publish, run, air, profile or screen your work as part of noise 2003.
As a media festival noise differs from more traditional festivals because there is no venue. Which means no market stalls, no long toilet queues and, maybe best of all, no expensive ticket to ride. The stages or platforms for this festival instead are the media. You can browse all that this festival has to offer by jumping on the net, opening up magazines, turning on the TV or listening to the radio. A festival which you can enjoy in the comfort of your own home.
Just some of the media partners supporting noise this time around include Triple J, Fly TV, Juice, IF Magazine, Express Media, Design Is Kinky, Chick, Black + White, IDN and Rolling Stone.
Technology has really changed the way media can be produced and has also helped make the media a truly accessible and legitimate cultural space, says Brandon Saul, noises executive producer. This means that, rather than just being observers or consumers, tonnes of young people are now also media makers. noise is all about the DIY ethic and the way the media constantly shifts and changes.
The opportunity to create festival content is open to the millions of Australians aged 25 or under and regardless of whether they hail from the urban pockets and suburban sprawl or rural regions and remote properties. There are 12 projects on offer this year, and you can get involved in as many of them as take your interest.
noise will be asking for submissions, everything ranging from zines, graffiti art, photography and Flash animation to industrial design & remixed music. noise not only wants to profile your work, it wants to know about you too. So step out from behind your zine, diary, computer, camera, canvas, spray-can, stencil or sketchpad and tell us about yourself.
noise is about making it, and being heard.
so listen for noise 2003.
