Of course it isn't. You only have to look at the music industry to see that money has never helped create good art - if anything it works in opposition to the creative process. You need only compare Macy Gray to Aretha Franklin. The only good thing money does for art is help get it to an audience.

It hards to judge whether its ok to sell out or not. If one artist of any media is fine with creating more commercial or mainstream art as well as their more personal/ artforms than who is to say that they are selling out. Especially as the money they may make can fund their other creative projects. Being an artist myself, I would rather make money selling generic type abstract paintings which people may buy for their lounge room etc, I call it 'ikea' art and don't hide or pretend that it is 'high' art, infact its probably closer to design but I would rather make money with those than working in cafe or a series of crap jobs that zap money and time.

But to answer the question.....its only good for your creativity if you put the cash into your other creative projects and at no time did you comprise personal principles. If you do, then it can comprise reputation and t your name on further work.

Well it usually turns out that the source of the funding determines what direction the "art" takes. occasionally though there may be an exception. user friendly art, isnt really art in the sense of expresionism.
