COPYRIGHT QUESTION

Hi there. I have tonnes of remixes and megamixes but none of them have the consent of the artists. Does this apply to DJs doing remixes/megamixes? Do I need permission from artists on track element clearance before I can safely submit any works to your Noise festival? I've often wondered about this. What copyright laws restrict DJs, if any?

Hi SpeCtre, You dont need to get permission for any artists featured on your DJ compilation before submitting it to noise. We'll take care of that side of things. All we need is for you to write down the name of each artist/track and their label (if possible). Our radio partners have licences with APRA that give them permission to play whatever they like...cheers, noise!

HI
My friend is dabbling in writing music and I think his tracks that he has already written are very unique and original, the only thing is he has used samples from a variety of different sources ie tv shows, movies, comedians, other songs etc
I was wondering how do you get copyright clearance? And can you direct me to any websites with info such as this?

hi, i'm seeing this question about copyright in all the forums, n i'm determined to add my own, since i've not yet established exactly what the solution is! so.. my film has a layered and textured soundtrack that includes dialogue from foriegn films and a few bars from several different songs. All together it is a whole new piece, and each element is hardly recognisable (i think!) so what should i do?

Thanks for answering that. So there are no copyright issues with megamixes at Noise. Awesome. But what about Generally? I'd need copyright clearance, right? Another question too that I wonder if you could be so kind to answer is, with REMIXES, does an artist need copyright clearance before he can remix an artist's song? I'm not just talking about for Noise, but in general. What if the remixer only uses the actual original track, and not separate track elements? Because most of my remixes and megamixes use the original track and I manually go in there and cut up samples and sections of the track rather than find separated track elements to mix. How does this affect copyright??
